i-Reporter for Android
Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions about i-Reporter for Android. Click each question to view the answer.

01 What is the difference between the Android version and the iOS/iPadOS version?
Answer

The Android version does not currently support all of the features available in the iOS/iPadOS version.

Please refer to the latest “Android Supported Features List” for details on the features currently available on Android.

Android support will be expanded in stages. When considering the Android version, please check the latest feature list to confirm that the features you need are supported.

POINT
The Android version has been officially released, but there are currently differences in supported features compared with the iOS/iPadOS version. Please check the latest supported feature information before use.
02 Can i-Reporter be used on any Android device?
Answer

There are a very large number of Android device manufacturers and models, so we have not tested every Android device.

Please first check the i-Reporter system requirements. If the device you plan to use is not listed, we recommend testing it in a trial environment under your actual device and operating conditions before deciding whether to use it.

POINT
A device that is not listed in the system requirements may still work, but we recommend verifying it on the actual device in advance.
03 Which Android OS versions are supported?
Answer

Please refer to the latest i-Reporter system requirements for supported Android OS versions.

Supported Android OS versions may change over time, so please check the latest information when introducing i-Reporter.

POINT
Supported OS information may change. Please always refer to the latest system requirements.
04 Can i-Reporter for Android be used on both smartphones and tablets?
Answer

Yes. i-Reporter for Android can be used on Android smartphones and tablets that meet the system requirements.

Smartphones are convenient for relatively simple field tasks such as inspections, entering check results, and recording information with photos. For forms with many input fields or workflows where users need to view the entire form while entering data, a tablet with a larger screen may be more suitable.

We recommend checking usability with the actual device and forms before deployment so you can choose the device that best fits your work.

POINT
You can choose between smartphones and tablets depending on the work and forms you use.
05 Can we use the Android devices we already have in our company?
Answer

Yes. You may be able to use your existing Android devices and introduce i-Reporter without purchasing new hardware.

Please first check the i-Reporter system requirements, including the Android OS version. If the device is not listed in the system requirements, install i-Reporter on the actual device and test your intended forms and operations in a trial environment before deciding whether to use it.

POINT
Using existing devices may help reduce the cost of purchasing new hardware.
06 Can forms currently used on the iOS/iPadOS version also be used on the Android version?
Answer

Form definitions created only with features supported by the Android version can be used for data entry on Android.

If a form definition contains a feature that is not supported by the Android version, the form cannot be filled in on an Android device. However, the form can still be viewed.

Before using an existing form on Android, please check the latest “Android Supported Features List” and confirm that all features used in the form are supported.

POINT
Whether a form can be filled in on Android depends on whether the form definition includes any features that are not supported by the Android version.
07 Can the same forms be used on both Android and iOS/iPadOS?
Answer

Yes. The same forms can be used from both Android and iOS/iPadOS devices within the same i-Reporter environment.

However, to enter data into a form from an Android device, the form definition must use only features supported by the Android version.

If the form definition contains a feature that is not supported on Android, the form cannot be filled in from an Android device, although it can still be viewed.

POINT
You do not necessarily need to create separate Android-only forms. Forms built only with Android-supported features can be used on both operating systems.
08 Can the Android version be used offline?
Answer

The current Android version does not support offline operation in the same way as the iOS/iPadOS version.

On Android, form definitions and in-progress forms cannot be stored on the device. Therefore, an internet connection is required when creating a new form and when saving the completed or edited form.

We plan to expand the Android version so that it can support offline operation in the future, similar to the iOS/iPadOS version.

POINT
The main times when an internet connection is required are when creating a form and when saving a form.
09 Do existing users need to update their i-Reporter environment to use the Android version?
Answer

Existing i-Reporter users need an i-Reporter environment that supports the Android version.

If you have been using i-Reporter since before the Android version was released and your current environment is on a version that does not support Android, you will need to update the i-Reporter environment before using the Android version.

i-Reporter versions released after the Android version launch are generally compatible with Android.

POINT
If you have been using i-Reporter since before the Android version was released, please check the version of your current environment.
10 Can the Android version be used with both Cloud and On-premise editions?
Answer

Yes. i-Reporter for Android can be used with both the Cloud and On-premise editions.

If you are using the On-premise edition, you do not need to migrate to the Cloud edition in order to use the Android version.

Existing users should confirm that their current i-Reporter environment is running a version that supports Android.

POINT
The Android version is available for both Cloud and On-premise editions.
11 Where can I install i-Reporter for Android?
Answer

i-Reporter for Android can be downloaded and installed from Google Play.

Open Google Play on your Android device, search for “i-Reporter,” and install the app.

Google Play is not available in China, so we plan to provide i-Reporter for Android through a different method there. Details for distribution in China will be announced once finalized.

POINT
In most regions, the Android app can be installed from Google Play. The distribution method for China will be announced once finalized.
12 Can Android and iOS/iPadOS devices be used together in the same environment?
Answer

Yes. Android and iOS/iPadOS devices can be used together in the same i-Reporter environment.

For example, you can continue using existing iPads while adding Android devices for selected users or workflows.

Please note that the Android version currently differs from the iOS/iPadOS version in supported features. For forms used on Android devices, please check the features supported by the Android version.

POINT
You do not need to standardize all devices on Android. Android and iOS/iPadOS devices can be used together depending on your workflow.
13 Do I need a separate license to use the Android version?
Answer

No separate Android-specific license is required.

The Android version can be used with your existing i-Reporter license. You do not need to purchase a different type of license simply because you are using Android instead of iOS/iPadOS.

The number of licenses required should be considered based on the number of users who will actually use i-Reporter.

POINT
The Android version is not a separate product. It simply adds another operating-system option for using i-Reporter.
14 For a new implementation, should we choose Android or iPad?
Answer

The best choice between Android and iPad depends on the work you want to accomplish with i-Reporter, the features you need, and the devices you plan to use.

Because the Android version currently differs from the iOS/iPadOS version in supported features, first check the “Android Supported Features List” to confirm that the features you need are available on Android.

If the Android version supports all of your requirements, Android devices can be considered as an option. If you need a feature that is not currently supported on Android, please consider using an iPad.

POINT
Rather than choosing a device first, we recommend considering your needs in this order: work requirements → required features → supported OS/device.
15 What should we check before purchasing Android devices?
Answer

Before purchasing Android devices, please first check the latest i-Reporter system requirements.

There are a very large number of Android device manufacturers and models, so we have not tested every device.

If the device you plan to use is not listed in the system requirements, we recommend testing the actual device before purchasing multiple units. Please verify that your forms and intended operation work as expected before making the final purchase decision.

POINT
We recommend testing the actual device you plan to use before purchasing multiple units.
16 Will features that are not currently supported be added to the Android version in the future?
Answer

Yes. We plan to expand the features supported by the Android version in stages.

The first release does not support every feature available on the iOS/iPadOS version, but we will continue to enhance the Android version over time.

Please refer to the latest “Android Supported Features List” for the current support status.

POINT
We plan to continue expanding Android functionality. Please refer to official announcements for the timing of specific feature releases.
